Studio or Chores?
“Just begin. No more foolin’ around washing dishes, picking up clothes, and sorting through old mail. Begin. Go to your art studio. Go.” That’s my inner artist speaking. It’s not that I don’t want to paint a picture or draw, it’s just getting myself out to the studio when I feel drawn to all the other ‘important” to do’s called daily chores.
Do you ever have trouble starting? Even when you know doing it is the best medicine for your soul?
Let’s face it, you can’t begin unless you show up. So after spending too much time fussing with other things, I finally went to my art studio. There, I wrote thank you notes, read other blogs, and lined up my brushes and pens. Then I saw this poem by Mrs. Rose Milligan taped to the wall. It begins …
“Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter”
I looked at the table and there were my pens, a tablet and soulful music waiting for me. And so I began. Now I feel better inside and out.
Are your creative tools sitting idle?
Afterwards, the studio ruffled up a bit.
Dear Jennifer,
I love your new web-site, it is a mirror of who you truly are, beautiful, sensitive, and deeply reflective. Whether it’s art or your spiritual healing, there is a magical thread of creativity that shines through. Wishing all good things for you.
Love, Mimi
Thank you, Mimi.
Hey Jennifer! Congrats on getting your website up and running. Looks like you have a lot of great experiences ahead. Thanks for this post about getting started. I don’t have a studio, but rather a desk in the family office, and I’m super grateful to have it. I’ve been spending more time in it this summer, but have realized I need time in there everyday to feel like myself….I need to that creative outlet daily. Thanks for the reminder….😎
Thanks for your words, Lorell. As you know, any space can become a creative space. Sometimes my lap is all I need! Keep on doing your thing.
