Jennifer Waldron, Ph.D.
When I was in graduate school, I had a professor who kindly pointed out to me that my voice was difficult to hear. Turning my breathy, wispy voice into a full voice was easy while I was performing, but in daily life I thought it made me sound aggressive and mean. The connection between voice image and personality suddenly became clear. Changing one would affect the other.
My formal education gave me solid footing, important experiences and teachings to help me understand how speech works and how the unity of mind, body, and emotions connect to the way we express ourselves.
The most transformational work began over a decade ago. I entered into a 3 year certification program on Music and Sound for Healing and Spirituality. In this experience of toning, chanting, and listening to music for healing and spirituality, I was awakened to the sacred nature of the human voice whether singing or speaking. That awareness turned my work in a new direction. Instead of working from the outside in, I found that helping others hear, feel and experience the sacredness of their own essential voice would be good medicine for all.
In the past 30 years, I have witnessed changes in speaking that have affected people’s lives in powerful ways. I have experienced the deep and profound connection between how we sound and how we see ourselves. And from that, I have seen people change their lives as they change their voice. I continue to believe that the capacity to speak from a rich, dynamic, divine place within is a path worth exploring.
